Build with Claude Code
Claude Code is Anthropic’s AI coding agent. IronFlock publishes a plugin for it with the ironflock-templates skill, which teaches the agent how an app plugs into IronFlock. With it, Claude Code writes the files in your app’s .ironflock/ folder the way the platform expects them, and checks them before you release:
| File | What the agent can do |
|---|---|
board-template.yml | Build the app’s board: choose widgets, bind them to your tables, lay out pages and navigation |
data-template.yml | Define tables and transforms that match what your code publishes |
env-template.yml | Add app parameters |
port-template.yml | Declare ports for remote access |
ai-template.yml | Define the app’s AI agents and their tools |
The plugin is public on GitHub: IronFlock/agent-skills.
What the Skill Contains
- The JSON Schemas of all five templates — the same ones published at
https://ironflock.com/schemas/. - A guide to the board template: data bindings, filters, aggregation, pages, navigation and layout.
- A catalog of all board widgets, describing which data each widget is meant for.
- A tool that reads a widget’s configuration schema for the exact widget version a board uses.
- A validator that checks every template against its schema and against the rules the platform otherwise reports only at install time — for example a widget bound to a column that does not exist.
Requirements
- Claude Code — see Anthropic’s setup guide.
- Python 3.9 or later for the validator. uv is recommended: with it, the validator installs its own dependencies. Without uv, run
python3 -m pip install pyyaml jsonschemaonce. - Internet access to
registry.npmjs.organdcdn.jsdelivr.net, where the widget schemas are published.
Install the Skill
Add the IronFlock plugin marketplace, then install the plugin from it — either inside Claude Code or from a terminal:
In Claude Code
/plugin marketplace add IronFlock/agent-skills
/plugin install ironflock@ironflockThe plugin is installed for your user account, so Claude Code can use it in every project. It loads in new sessions; in a session that is already running, enter /reload-plugins. To check the installation, run claude plugin list — it lists ironflock@ironflock.
Keep It Up to Date
Claude Code updates plugins from third-party marketplaces only when you turn that on. Turn it on once: run /plugin in Claude Code, open Marketplaces, select ironflock and choose Enable auto-update. Or update by hand:
claude plugin marketplace update ironflock
claude plugin update ironflock@ironflockSet It Up for Your Team
To make the plugin available to everyone who works on an app, commit this file to the app’s repository as .claude/settings.json:
{
"extraKnownMarketplaces": {
"ironflock": {
"source": { "source": "github", "repo": "IronFlock/agent-skills" },
"autoUpdate": true
}
},
"enabledPlugins": { "ironflock@ironflock": true }
}Claude Code applies the file once a team member trusts the folder.
Use the Skill
You do not need to call the skill. Claude Code uses it on its own when you work on an IronFlock app — for example when you ask:
- “Add a board to this app that shows the current temperature of every machine as a gauge and a 24-hour trend.”
- “Make the sampling interval configurable per device, between 1 and 60 seconds.”
- “Make the web UI on port 8080 available for remote access.”
To start the skill explicitly, enter /ironflock:ironflock-templates.
Claude Code first reads your app’s code, so that the tables match what the code publishes. Then it writes the templates and runs the validator until no errors are left. Afterwards you can open the board in the UI Builder to adjust it visually — the UI Builder reads and writes the same board-template.yml.
The skill only changes files in your app’s repository. Release a new version of your app to bring the changes to the projects that use it — see Releases & the App Store.
Validate Templates Without the Agent
The validator also runs on its own, for example in a CI pipeline:
git clone https://github.com/IronFlock/agent-skills
uv run agent-skills/plugins/ironflock/skills/ironflock-templates/scripts/validate.py path/to/your-appIt prints one line per finding with file, line and path, and exits with code 1 if it found an error.
Uninstall
